A Fresh Start

A Fresh Start

Welcome to The Northwind.

I've done something of a redesign; a new look, some new content, and a recommitment to focus and to make use of the modest platform I have here on the internet. I recently divested myself of social media accounts, and I've decided to make more of my opportunity to self publish more meaningful thoughts here. I've also added a photo gallery, and will be sharing some of my photography — I'm no professional but I have some images I'm very proud of. I'll be starting with a selection of older photos and publishing new ones more-or-less as they happen.

I'm sure I'll be making further refinements to the site in the next few weeks, so things may change a little. I also want to publish new articles fairly regularly, and hope to maintain a strong editorial standard as well as improve the quality of my work here. As a child I always wanted to be a writer, and the only requirement for that title is to write.

There were many factors involved in my decision to leave social media. In the last couple of months I had made a short-lived but concerted effort to make more of those platforms following a brief hiatus. When the novelty wore off I found that old dissatisfactions returned very rapidly. I have always enjoyed writing long-form and so I'd prefer to focus the time and attention previously demanded by social media into working out my thoughts and ideas into something more substantial before sharing it with the world (or at least so much of that world that cares to look).

If you're here, and you'd like to help in a small way, then all I can really ask of you is that if you like something you find here and feel that it has some value, share it. Share the post on Facebook or twitter, or e-mail it to your friend with similar interests — I no longer have the ability to publicise myself in that way.

Old posts from the previous iteration of the site are preserved if you stumble upon an old link, though I can't guarantee they'll be as pretty as the new ones.

Thanks for checking in, and I hope you'll check back once in a while.
