Facebook recently began including auto-playing video in the timeline. This annoys be beyond my ability to express in human words. It's awful, and the the tools provided to prevent or at least control this behaviour are limited. I have seriously considered quitting Facebook, and I don't feel that it would really be an overreaction. Facebook's initiatives to try and increase engagement are decidedly user-hostile, intended to bludgeon you into embracing new features or at least beat you into them with apathy. I do plainly get some use out of Facebook, limited as my interaction may be, and so I am reluctant to just jump off and abandon what utility it does offer.
The Northwind is a personal website and blog for the exploration of the personal interests, the adventures, the successes, and the trials of its author. You'll find subjects from history, politics, and activism to technology, media, and video games.
Often nerdy, occasionally frivolous, sometimes serious, and hopefully always interesting.
